8 Mistakes you could be making with your eye cream
Whether you’re an eye cream veteran or just beginning there’s a chance you could be making one of these common mistakes.
Below, we give a quick overview of some common eye cream mistakes and how you can easily fix them.
1. Too, too much
When it comes to eye creams a little can go a very long way.
The skin around your eyes is a very small area, so small that a pea-sized amount of eye cream should be enough to cover it.
On top of that, it’s expensive stuff so you want to make sure you get as much out of that purchase as you can.
2. Out of order application
Believe it or not, the order in which you take care of your skin is of the utmost importance.
The more products that you have, the harder it can be to remember the right order of your skincare routine.
Here’s our easy rule to keep in mind - apply based on thickness.
For example, if you use a rich and heavy eye cream, it should go on top of the moisturiser. On the other hand, if it’s lighter than your serum put it on under the moisturiser.
If you’re confused about which goes first, you can always check the instructions on your eye cream packaging which should give you clear guidance.
3. Using it on dry skin
Pro tip - Don’t apply moisturiser to dry skin.
Take that as a rule.
Why? Because damp skin has an easier time locking in the hydration, which is what you want from, you know, a moisturiser.
This same rule can be applied to eye cream.
So before towelling off after using your facial cleanser, apply a small amount of cream onto your eyes while your face is still damp.
4. Too close to your eyes
Be careful!
When you’re applying your eye cream, if it’s going on your lids or lashes, you’re too close.
Instead, simply dot the eye cream under your eyebrow on the orbital bone, and under your eyes in a semi-circle shape about half an inch below your lashes.
Any closer than this and you risk irritating your eyes severely.
5. Don’t rub too hard
The skin around your skin is very delicate, so there’s no need whatsoever to be rough with it.
Instead of rubbing hard, try blending the cream into your skin with gentle patting and tapping with the tip of your ring finger.
6. Not using it preventatively
Some people mistakenly think that you should only start using eye cream when your skin starts visibly ageing.
But there’s simply no reason to wait around. Use eye cream regularly even if you’re not worried about fine lines and wrinkles. Poko Correcting Eye Cream can help restore damaged skin as well as help dry skin retain water and stay hydrated.
Using eye cream early and regularly will keep your under-eye skin hydrated and well balanced.
7. Focus on ingredients, not the price tag
It’s okay, we get it, sometimes you just want to get the cheapest thing you see and be done.
And other times, you assume that just because something is from the most expensive brand then it must be good, right?
Unfortunately, neither policy is the best. What you should always be looking out for is the list of ingredients. These will tell you exactly what you can expect, performance-wise from your chosen skin care products.
But when it comes to any type of skincare product keep an eye out for potent, hydrating ingredients, not just the price tag.
The Poko Correcting Eye Cream contains aloe vera juice which helps fight effects of UV damage, such as fine lines and hyperpigmentation. It’s intensely hydrating as well as anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.
8. Not paying attention to your specific concerns
Not all skin is the same, and not all eye cream products do the same job.
If you’re using an eye cream you’re making a positive step. However, if you’re not using one that’s the best for your skin, then you’re doing yourself an injustice.
For example, if you want to tackle those dark circles underneath your eyes, then using a cream that focuses on puffiness is not the wisest choice.
So, for anyone who is already well-versed in the school of eye cream importance, our top tips may help you get even more value from this wonder product.
